Beneficiary Info: ACE Africa helps to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS on rural resource poor communities in Kenya and Tanzania through health promotion, food security and nutritional assistance, education opportunity, community capacity building and support among the infected and affected so that orphans and vulnerable children can develop to their full potential. We help people to help themselves.<b/> Research led, the ACE Africa unique programme addresses the short term emergency needs and longer term social, cultural and economic issues associated with HIV and AIDS concurrently. With a clear exit plan, the programme aims to strengthen local structures and networks in order for them to sustain a comprehensive and community led support system, without the support of ACE Africa in the future. ACE Africa works in remote rural areas where 25% of the adult population are HIV positive, 20% of children are orphaned due to HIV AIDS and 60% of the population lives on less than $1 a day. Working with over 4,000 community volunteers, ACE Africa has supported over 400,000 People Living with HIV/AIDS, Orphans and Vulnerable Children and their families since 2004. ACE Africa’s work is endorsed and supported by Comic Relief (amongst other UK trusts and foundations) and is the 2010 Africa and Middle East winner of the STARS Foundation Impact Award for excellence in implementing community health projects.
