Dementia Adventure is a multi-award winning charity. Dementia Adventure has a simple mission: to enable people living with dementia to get outdoors, connect with nature, themselves and their community, and retain a sense of adventure in their lives. Exercise, fresh air and stimulation can help people retain their skills and interests for longer, improve overall health and wellbeing and have a positive impact of the lives of people living with dementia and their carers/families. We are based in Essex but work nationally and have an international following. We provide training, research, and consultancy services - all with nature in mind; Dementia Adventures - People living with dementia can often feel that holidays, travel and outdoor activity are things that are no longer available to them. Dementia Adventure delivers small-group short breaks such as sailing, canal boat and walking holidays and other small bespoke group holidays as an alternative to traditional ‘respite’. Using our experience of delivering positive nature and outdoor based adventures to people living with dementia, DA’s team of qualified and experienced trainers deliver a range of training and bespoke support to carers, staff, managers and volunteers from leading conservation charities, care home providers, health and social care organisations across the UK, with the aim of increasing understanding and encouraging positive risk taking We are also leading the research into the benefits of outdoor activity for people with dementia. The money generated through the Giving Machine will be dedicated to providing adventures to people living with dementia and their partners who can least afford it.
