We are a UK charity, committed to halt and indeed reverse the catastrophic decline in the African Lion. Over the past 50 years Africa's lion populations have plummeted from over 200,000 individuals back in the 1960's to probably fewer than 15,000 today. Lions may only have between 5 and 10 years left before extinction in the wild. A significant cause of these declines is lion trophy hunting, a practice which not only continues today but is accelerating! The rarer the animal, the more prized the trophy! LionAid is currently campaigning to bring about a ban on the importation of lion trophies into the UK/EU.
