Watford Women's Centre is a small charity, run by women for women. The charity was set up in 1989 by a small group of women's rights campaigners acting in a voluntary capacity and concerned about the lack of support for victims of domestic abuse and rape. The founding principle of the Charity was to provide a safe space for women in which they could explore their situation, build trust relationships with other women and gain the support they needed to move away from harmful relationships. Since 1989, the charity has consolidated and diversified its work and services whilst retaining an unshakable focus on empowering women. Today, Watford Womens Centre Plus provides a range of services that support our charities values and ethos. These include: Empowerment: One to one casework and domestic abuse support. Personal development courses for women impacted by domestic abuse. Domestic abuse and healthy relationship awareness training. Development: Low cost long term counselling for all women presenting mild to moderate mental health issues. Careers advice and guidance. Training and support of volunteers and volunteer placement. Support: We facilitate a number of support groups where women can come together to engage in positive self organised activities such as, Arts and Crafts, mothers and toddlers, discussion groups and Gardening Education: Free or low cost Adult and Community Learning training courses such as ESOL, ICT, personal development and employabilty.
