Alzheimer’s Research UK - September's Featured Cause

We’re honoured that Alzheimer’s Research UK has been selected as The Giving Machine’s Cause of the Month for September. As the UK’s leading dementia research charity, we’ve made it our mission to bring about the first life-changing treatment for dementia. It’s an ambitious goal, but one that we firmly believe is possible, and it’s support from organisations like The Giving Machine that will help us to achieve it.

With no government funding for our research, we rely on donations like these to be able to carry out our vital work. Our fantastic supporters are making possible pioneering research projects that are expanding our understanding about the physical diseases – like Alzheimer’s – that cause dementia, and improving our ability to diagnose, prevent and treat them. With 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK alone, and that number expected to rise to a million by 2025, this effort has never been more vital. It’s through research that we can offer real hope to the people whose lives are affected by the condition.

Our work doesn’t stop there: we’re also pushing to keep dementia on the political agenda, campaigning tirelessly for fair funding for dementia research. And we work to build public understanding of dementia, breaking down some of the myths and misperceptions that still pervade society. Through our award-winning campaigns such as #ShareTheOrange, we are helping more people understand that dementia is not an inevitable part of old age, but a condition caused by diseases that could one day be treated.
