Sheffield Mencap & Gateway was set up in 1951 by parents of children with learning disabilities who wanted to give their children a better life and continues to exist to support people with learning disabilities in Sheffield.

In other words, our members have the same goals and hopes as everyone else – but facing greater barriers to overcome on the way.

Sheffield Mencap and Gateway’s services are available to anyone in Sheffield with a learning disability and to their families. It is for women, men, young and old, wealthy or poor, people of any religious faith or of none.
Sheffield Mencap and Gateway works with all who want to improve the quality of life for people with a learning disability. It works in partnership and co-operates with all statutory and voluntary agencies that share its aims
