Our vision is that all people with a learning disability and their carers in Sheffield feel valued, included and respected. We believe that everyone should be supported to reach their full potential and to live the life they choose.

That’s the official line. But what that actually means is that here at Norfolk Lodge we help people to make the most of their lives: to get a little more independence, to find friendship or a partner and to find a job, or fulfilling daytime activity. In other words, our members have the same goals and hopes as everyone else – but facing greater barriers to overcome on the way.

Our mission shows a commitment to people with a learning disability and their families through:

  • Identifying and working against all forms of inequality
  • Building up confidence and skills
  • Working towards ensuring full and meaningful lives

Sheffield Mencap and Gateway’s services are available to anyone in Sheffield with a learning disability and to their families. It is for women, men, young and old, wealthy or poor, people of any religious faith or of none.

Sheffield Mencap and Gateway works with all who want to improve the quality of life for people with a learning disability. It works in partnership and co-operates with all statutory and voluntary agencies that share its aims
