Groundwork : changing places and changing lives one green step at a time

Groundwork is the community charity with a green heart – and we’re excited to have joined this fantastic giving community.

We make places look better, streets safer and outside areas green and beautiful. We help people of all ages to do things together to make the best of where they live. We improve job prospects by offering training. We show people how they can make their homes more efficient places to run and support businesses with their corporate social responsibility.

We work towards a vision of a society of sustainable communities which are vibrant, healthy and safe, which respect the local and global environment and where individuals and enterprise prosper. Creating these sustainable communities means developing initiatives which cut across economic, social and environmental issues. Our work is diverse, but it all helps to achieve our vision – we change places and change lives one green step at a time.

The Groundwork East team

We’re delighted to have joined TheGivingMachine as we know that we’ll only achieve our vision by working with others – passionate individuals, proactive public services and innovative parts of the private sector. Whether you’re a Giver, one of our (existing or future) partner organisations or someone who’ll benefit from one of our projects, we’re glad to know you!

The Groundwork approach is to:

  • Start local
  • Put the right tools in people’s hands
  • Engage with everyone who has a stake in a place
  • Address as many issues as possible with the same investment

That’s why we’re really excited to be partnering with Tesco on their Local Communities Scheme.
The money raised from the 5p bag charge in Tesco stores in the UK will be used to fund a large number of local projects that improve green spaces in communities across the UK to create better and happier places.

There will be two funding rounds per year over the next three years; the first funding round of the programme is open for applications now and will close on Friday 27 November 2015.

Do you know of a local community green space project that would benefit from funding? If so, apply now for a grant – or share this information with anyone you think may be interested.

Projects that will get the green light as a result of the funding will include building new pocket parks, sports facilities, woodland walks and community gardens.

Groundwork is administering the funding and you can find all the details on our website.

Groundwork is a national federation of Trusts. Groundwork East covers six counties: Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. We focus on three major areas of activity: creating better places, encouraging greener living and working, and improving people’s prospects.
