Dog Owners are Happier and Healthier

Here at TheGivingMachine we love our four-legged friends, but did you know that there is now evidence to show owning a pet, especially a dog, makes you happier and healthier? Here’s why …

Dogs

Dogs make you feel loved

Spending time with your pet increases your levels of the ‘love hormone’ oxytocin, making you feel more relaxed. They’re not called ‘man’s best friend’ for nothing!

Dogs help you make friends

Most dogs love to say hello to their fellow canine friends whilst out on their morning walk, which means owners often get chatting too. And as you already have a common ground (dogs!) it’s easy to find something to natter about.

Dogs help you keep fit and healthy

Dogs need at least one daily walk, plus entertainment throughout the day. All this means dog owners are kept active. Not only is this good for your physical health, but it also helps raise your mood.

Dogs help you stay relaxed

Not only does all the love and companionship from your dog help raise your oxytocin levels, it also lowers cortisol, the stress hormone.
