TheGivingMachine put the Weekend Box to the test!

Weekend Box was created by Andy who had a passion for children’s learning and green issues. When he couldn’t find a gift for his nieces and nephews, he decided something had to be done, so he married the two and the Weekend Box was born.

Weekend Boxes are fun and educational with the idea of keeping children away from the TV and computer games and bringing families together. It’s not a box you give to the kids and let them get on with – you join in! Make, bake, create and explore! They’re personalised for the child, so a surprise comes through the door with their name on either once a month or fortnightly.

This week we were lucky enough to receive a Weekend Box in the post and it was down to our Marketing Director Rachel and her two children, Charlie, 10 and Annabelle 8 to put this box to the test.

.

So here’s what Rachel says:

“My daughter loves to craft so when Luisa asked if she would do a product review for the Weekend Box Club she was delighted.

My Son kindly offered to take care of the photos for me, (at 10 he’s not as keen on crafts as he once was).

Annabelle was intrigued by the design of the box, if was colourful and interesting and there was a surprising amount of items within the box. There was a nice booklet with clear, easy to follow instructions for each of the four activities, and large poster and some stickers. We also liked the way each activity had the required items presented in its own colourful paper bag.

We tested the “Bumper box” which is priced at £8.95 for 4 activities and aimed at 3-8 year olds. As Annabelle is at the older end of the age range she was able to carry out most of the activities unaided and the expected time taken for the activities of 30-35 mins seemed pretty accurate.

There were a variety of things to do, and as the Weekend Box Club say you get to “make, bake, explore and more” and would probably keep most children entertained for the weekend. Annabelle enjoyed having a range of activities that were quick, easy and fun to do.

What I liked most about it was that as you are only supplied with the correct amount of things you need so you don’t end up with a pile of glitter, card, string, and beads that you then feel obliged to use up. You can open the box, create and be entertained and then tidy it all away.
