Introducing

Fleet Phoenix

Successful Community Grant cause

Fleet Phoenix

Fleet Phoenix was founded in 2011 as a response to youth services being cut both locally and nationally. As services came to a halt, the vulnerable youth of the area were left without support or anywhere to go to get help.  As a response to the situation, an experienced team of dedicated local youth workers committed to ensuring the resurrection of much needed support for young people by setting up Fleet Phoenix.

They created sessions in response to identified needs of vulnerable young people, the community and the charity's partners.

Their grant application

When applying for one of our unrestricted Community Grant, Fleet Phoenix told us that the young people they work with are from families living on budgets. These young people have limited access to nutritious food and equipment to learn life skills in the kitchen. Fleet Phoenix offer them opportunities to learn and grow with food, nutrition and healthy eating. They learn that food can be fun and doesn't have to cost a fortune. These skills and knowledge will be life long for them.

What they spent their grant on

Charlotte Tickner, the Managing Director at Fleet Phoenix shared how the funds from their £250 Community Grant were spent.

“Thank you for the grant.

It has truly made an impact on what we can offer young people. We have been surprised ourselves, how with just £250 we have been able to extend our range of cooking and nutrition activities for young people.

We used the money to buy new equipment, including a range of rubber baking moulds, mats and trays (no more rust), reliable scales (no more random measures), additional spatulas, spoons, etc (no more fighting over the one spatula), a range of icing materials and a range of young person cookery books for inspiration.

Young people from 8-25 use the equipment at most open sessions ( 4 open evenings a week). Some young people are now coming in with ideas and plans of what they would like to try and learn. Some young people are trying new foods for the first time. Some, eating their only hot meal of the day with us.”

Our Community Grants

We love providing these unrestricted Community Grants and hearing about the difference this £250 grant made to Fleet Phoenix and the community they serve, helping them continue their amazing work supporting young people to build confidence and brighter futures.

Each quarter, we offer 8 x £250 Community Grants to UK-based good causes. If you are a good cause who would like to apply for one of these unrestricted grants, visit our Community Grants page for more information.
