Mad About Schnauzers UK Fundraising

Mad About Schnauzers UK Fundraising story

Back in 2016, when we were just a Schnauzer owner Facebook support group, we decided to start raising money for Schnauzers in need as we had many members who had adopted rescue dogs and we wanted to try and make a difference.   These dogs are mainly puppy farm survivors taken in by a charity - The Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre (DBARC), nr Reading. However, we do help other organisations from time to time who have Schnauzers with exceptional veterinary care needs and need our financial support.

We formalised in December 2020 as a registered non-profit - importantly remaining a totally voluntary organisation.

Most of our fundraising takes place on Mad About Schnauzers UK Fundraising Facebook group.

Here we have regular online auctions, Christmas markets, online dog shows, raffles and sell very lovely MAS merchandise throughout the year.

In the last 5-6 years we have contributed towards the positive progress of many ex-breeding Schnauzers and other Schnauzers in need - most require life changing operations, emergency veterinary treatment, follow up treatments and longer-term care at DBARC when necessary - by donating more than £189,000 to date.

An example of our work is Silk:

Silk a puppy farm rescue, on arrival at DBARC in November 2021, was very timid. She would not take a treat and was not ready to be touched. She was totally blind and had a very bad ear infection. We funded all her veterinary treatment which included ear treatment, dental, spay and double cataract surgery, specialist consultations, follow up appointments and ongoing eye drop treatment. All this along with contributing to the ongoing costs for Munchkin Manor which is a fantastic schnauzer rehabilitation accommodation at DBARC where Star (another puppy farm rescue whom we’ve been supporting) is currently a resident. The total donated just for Silk’s care was £5,182.

Silk has now progressed so well that she can see and is doing well in her new forever home with a long term MAS member.  This is why we do what we do.  These dogs deserve a second chance and without fundraisers like us, Rescues like DBARC would not be able to give the dogs what they so deserve after being treated so badly by the human race.

We are always looking for new online fundraising ideas and saw what the Giving Lottery offered and thought some of our members would like to join in this weekly lottery to benefit our cause.

We have been delighted with the ticket numbers sold so far and we are  starting to see our supporters in the winners list each week.

This is a fun initiative for our organisation to be involved in and importantly it entails very little admin time on our part.  The lottery has a great dashboard which gives all the information we need and tools to promote it on our various Facebook pages and website.
